The Walt Disney Company is set to remove single use plastic straws and plastic stirrers from all of its theme parks and resorts around the world with the exception of Tokyo.
The company reported that they use 175,000,000 straws and 13,000,000 stirrers annually. In addition to the removal of straws and stirrers, the in room amenities at Disney resorts will also transition to refillable containers for shampoo, conditioner and soap.
“Eliminating plastic straws and other plastic items are meaningful steps in our long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Consumer Products. “These new global efforts help reduce our environmental footprint, and advance our long-term sustainability goals.”
