Replacement Coming for Stitch’s Great Escape?

    Stitch’s Great Escape had it’s last day of operation on January 6, 2018. It is rumored to be replaced with a new attraction.

    October 1, 2016 was the last day of normal operation for Stitch’s Great Escape. The attraction stopped daily operation and is now classified as “Seasonal”. It re-opened from December 17, 2016 – January 2, 2017 as well as other times since going seasonal.

    On September 30, 2017 the sign changed from Stitch’s Great Escape to Stitch’s Alien Encounter Character Greeting.

    The attraction returned from December 23, 2017 – January 6, 2018, and it was confirmed as permanently closed by an internal memo on July 16, 2020. This confirmation makes January 6, 2018 the last day of operation for the attraction.

    The strongest rumor for a replacement attraction surrounds Wreck-It-Ralph.

    September 14, 2020: WDWMagic.com user TheVisionarySoul is reporting that any replacement to Stitch’s Great Escape has been indefinitely delayed.

    August 19, 2020: WDWMagic.com user marni1971 is reporting that at one point a Sugar Rush (Wreck-It-Ralph) attraction was planned to replace Stitch’s Great Escape but he is uncertain if it is still planned.

    August 10, 2020: Twitter user @Luke94 reported that the exterior sign for Stitch’s Great Escape has been removed.

    July 16, 2020: In an internal memo to cast members, Disney announced that Rivers of Light, Primeval Whirl and Stitch’s Great Escape have permanently closed.

    Both Stitch’s Great Escape and Primeval Whirl were previously listed as seasonal attractions while Rivers of Light was operating nightly prior to the Coronavirus closure.

    March 24, 2020: WDWNT.com is reporting that Disney has filed a Notice of Commencement for demolition of the interior of the former Stitch’s Great Escape attraction. The article continues to state that a new Wreck-It-Ralph inspired attraction would replace Stitch’s Great Escape. According to the article, the new attraction would utilize the theater in the round setup and equip each seat with video game controllers.

    October 2, 2018: WDWNT.com is reporting that Stitch’s Great Escape is already dismantled and will not reopen.

    May 21, 2018: On Episode 60 of Big Fat Panda’s YouTube show, John interviewed former Vice President of the Magic Kingdom, Dan Cockerell. Outside of the interview, Dan also advised John that the budget for the Main Street Theater project was re-allocated to a replacement for Stitch’s Great Escape.

    January 9, 2018: WDWNT.com is reporting that Disney informed them that Stitch’s Great Escape will return despite internal documents that state it has closed permanently.

    January 6, 2018: Stitch’s Great Escape had it’s last day of operation as part of it’s holiday run. It is rumored that this will also be the attraction’s actual last day of operation.

    December 13, 2017: WDWNT.com is reporting that after Stitch’s Great Escpae has it’s seasonal run from December 23, 2017 – January 6, 2018 it will close forever.

    November 7, 2017: Stitch’s Great Escape! will return for seasonal operation from December 23, 2017 – January 6, 2018.

    September 30, 2017: The sign for Stitch’s Great Escape has been modified so that it now reads, “Stitch’s Alien Encounter Character Greeting”.

    September 4, 2017: WDWMagic.com user Magic Feather is reporting that a replacement for Stitch’s Great Escape is still planned for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World in 2021.

    July 20, 2017: On the latest episode of The Unofficial Guide’s Disney Dish podcast, Jim Hill and Len Testa discussed that the rumored Wreck It Ralph attraction would be contingent on the success of the Wreck It Ralph sequel.

    January 2, 2017: Stitch’s Great Escape had it’s last day of operation for the holiday season. It is unknown if it will return.

    December 29, 2016: WDWMagic.com user marni1971 is reporting that Wreck it Ralph is “out” based on his latest information.

    December 13, 2016: MousePlanet.com is reporting that Stitch’s Great Escape is expected to be open on December 17th and remain open at least through December 31st, 2016. It is unknown if both theaters will be open during this time.

    November 16, 2016: WDWMagic.com user marni1971 is now reporting that this attraction may not happen.

    October 31, 2016: WDWMagic.com user marni1971 is reporting that Wreck it Ralph is locked in as the replacement for Stitch’s Great Escape and work should begin in January.

    October 26, 2016: @CarouselOf on Twitter is reporting that Stitch’s Great Escape is already being dismantled.

    September 21, 2016: Dewayne Bevil of the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that beginning October 2, 2016 Stitch’s Great Escape will shift into seasonal operation. October 1, 2016 will be the attraction’s last day of normal operation, after which it will only operate during select times of the year.

    August 15, 2016: On Episode 108 of the Unofficial Guide’s Disney Dish podcast, Jim Hill explained that the replacement for Stitch’s Great Escape would be a Wreck it Ralph simulator attraction based on Sugar Rush.

    August 7, 2016: WDWMagic.com user Magic Feather has posted that a replacement is planned for Stitch’s Great Escape. In a subsequent post, WDWMagic.com user marni1971 indicated that the attraction would be a 3D attraction, and users Magic Feather and articos indicated that the attraction could be open in 2018.

    August 1, 2016: WDWMagic.com user marni1971 posted that Stitch’s Great Escape would close and a new attraction would take it’s place.
