Former Vice President of the Magic Kingdom, Dan Cockerell reported that a new nighttime parade or the Main Street Electrical Parade will debut in time for the Magic Kingdom’s 50th Anniversary in 2021.
May 5, 2020: On Disney’s Quarter 2 Fiscal Year 2020 earnings call, Disney Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy stated the company’s plans to reduce capital expenditures during the Covid-19 pandemic. McCarthy stated that capital expenditures for the parks and resorts would be reduced by $900 million by way of pausing refurbishment and construction projects.
Details of specific projects that may be subject to delay or cancellation were not stated, but construction on all ongoing Walt Disney World projects was suspended shortly after the park closure in March.
October 15, 2019: WDWMagic.com user Disnerd2003 is reporting that the Main Street Electrical Parade will return for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World.
April 21, 2019: On Episode 216 of the Disney Dish Podcast, Jim Hill stated that the new nighttime parade for the Magic Kingdom is expected to be announced at August’s D23 Expo and it would be ready for the Magic Kingdom’s 50th Anniversary in 2021.
January 19, 2019: WDWMagic.com user RightTurnClyde is reporting that Disney has signed a contract to purchase 50 parade float chassis for an unannounced project.
May 21, 2018: On Episode 60 of Big Fat Panda’s YouTube show, John interviewed former Vice President of the Magic Kingdom, Dan Cockerell. In the interview Dan confirmed that a new nighttime parade will come to the Magic Kingdom by 2021.

July 5, 2017: In a series of tweets (Tweet 1, Tweet 2, Tweet 3, Tweet 4) @JimHillMedia clarified that the Main Street Electrical Parade would return to Walt Disney World “One Final Time” before Disney opens a Paint the Night inspired Parade at the Magic Kingdom for the 50th Anniversary.
July 5, 2017: On the July premium episode of the Unofficial Guide’s Disney Dish podcast, Jim Hill discusses that a version of Paint the Night could eventually be coming to the Magic Kingdom and the Main Street Electrical Parade is likely to return after it’s run in Disneyland.
February 9, 2017: Beginning February 17th, the Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It! parade will begin nightly performances. The show will run at either 7:00 PM or 7:15 PM depending on the night.
Rumors existed of the Festival of Fantasy Parade running at night and this appears to be an alternative option. It is unknown if nighttime performances of Festival of Fantasy are still being considered.

August 10, 2016: The Disney Parks Blog confirmed that the Main Street Electrical Parade will be ending it’s run at the Magic Kingdom and heading over to Disneyland. The last showing of the Main Street Electrical Parade will be October 9, 2016. The blog post did not specify that Paint the Night would be replacing the parade.
August 10, 2016: WDWMagic.com user WDW1974 has reported hearing that Disneyland’s Paint the Night parade would be coming to Florida while the Main Street Electrical Parade would return to Disneyland.
August 2, 2016: The Disney Parks Blog announced that Disneyland’s Paint The Night parade would be “going dark” in September.
June 6, 2016: Twitter user @DLthings is reporting that after Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary celebration is complete on September 5th, 2016 that the Paint the Night Parade will be relocated to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom with the Main Street Electrical Parade moving to Disneyland.
