Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Working With Imagineering on Changes to the Jungle Cruise?

    Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to star in a movie inspired by the Jungle Cruise attraction. The movie hits theaters on July 24, 2020 and if the movie is successful, updates to the Jungle Cruise attraction are expected.

    Disney has previously seen Pirates of the Caribbean inspire a movie franchise and the franchise in turn inspire a re-imagining of the attraction. The scope of these updates are expected to be similar to that of the Pirates of the Caribbean updates and the expectation is that the attraction would close for refurbishment in late 2020 and reopen in 2021.

    August 20, 2019: WDWNT.com is reporting that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Jungle Cruise are expected to undergo refurbishments

    November 5, 2018: On Episode 186 of the Disney Dish Podcast, Jim Hill discussed the circumstances around the updates to Jungle Cruise. The movie’s release date moved to July 24, 2020 and depending on the success Jungle Cruise is expected to receive moderate updates. The updates are expected to take place in 2021.

    April 29, 2017: WDWMagic.com user marni1971 is reporting that the attraction will likely see changes but they should not be severe.

    April 29, 2017: Inquisitr.com posted an article about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson touring the Disney archives to learn about the Jungle Cruise attraction. Two separate instagram posts by Johnson discussed the tour of the archives. (Post 1, Post 2)

    In the article, Johnson acknowledges that he will be working with Imagineers to “help re-engineer and re-design” the ride around the world.
