There are several rumors circulating about changes coming to Tomorrowland. It seems that the bulk of these changes are aesthetic and will be tied to the Tron Lightcycle Attraction coming being the Speedway.
While large scale changes to Tomorrowland are considred Blue Sky at this point, there are several Tomorrowland rumors that are currently at various stages:
A new paint scheme started to emerge in March of 2018 with a design reminiscent of the metal work around the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover.
We are considering any changes to Tomorrowland as In Development at this point, and we are tracking several individual rumors as well:
February 28, 2020: BlogMickey.com posted a photo update of the changes to Tomorrowland.
September 17, 2019: Overnight a new sign was installed at the entrance to Tomorrowland. BlogMickey.com shared several photos of the new sign.
March 7, 2019: At the 2019 Shareholder’s meeting, Bob Iger answered a question regarding updates coming to Tomorrowland. He did not specify what is happening but it is something that the Imagineers are currently exploring.
September 3, 2018: Twitter user @bioreconstruct posted photos of the spaceship marquee in front of Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor behind construction walls. It appears this is being removed as part of the new aesthetic changes in Tomorrowland.
May 25, 2018: WDWMagic.com user marni1971 is reporting that updates are in the works for Carousel of Progress, Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover and Tomorrowland Speedway.
April 8, 2018: Buzz’s Star Command Cart had it’s last day of operation.
March 24, 2018: A new paint scheme is starting ot emerge in Tomorrowland. @ShowcaseWishes on Twitter has posted images of the new paint scheme near Monster’s Inc Laugh Foor and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. The paint scheme is reminiscent of the metal work along the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover.
March 19, 2018: WDWNT.com is reporting that changes are coming to Tomorrowland with some beginning as soon as next week. Changes include:
- iCan the Robot will have his last day of operation on April 7th, 2018
- Buzz’s Star Command Cart (the Toy Story/Claw themed cart) will have it’s last day of operation on April 8th, 2018
Other expected changes include a “crystal white” and blue color scheme with some “hexagon patterns” in place
April 24, 2017: Disney introduced a new “interactive robot” called iCan in Tomorrowland. The robot is staffed by a cast member and features video screens on his chest and forearm. The robot movesaround on wheels and will talk with guests.
The voice is slightly digitized, but otherwise iCan does not appear to have scripted responses like Mickey, instead he is capable of normal interaction.
It is unknown if this is a limited engagement test, or if iCan will be a permanent addition to Tomorrowland.
April 8, 2017: @CarouselOf on Twitter is reporting the following changes coming to Tomorrowland:
- 3 or 4 new attractions
- A Tron attraction that will not be the coaster from Shanghai
- New Area Lighting
- New background Music
March 19, 2017: On Episode 123 of the Unofficial Guide’s Disney Dish Podcast with Jim Hill, Jim and Len discuss the possibility of the Tron Coaster from Shanghai Disneyland replacing the Tomorrowland Speedway. This would be done for the 50th Anniversary of the park in 2021 and largely be contingent on the success of Tron 3, should it get made.
March 18, 2017: WDWMagic.com user WDW1974 is reporting that for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World, Disney is looking to add 50 “Magical Enhancements” for the 50th Anniversary. The 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World is October 1, 2021 and one of the rumored enhancements wasa new final scene for Carousel of Progress as well as additional enhancements to the attraction.
January 26, 2017: WDWMagic.com user marni1971 has reported that there are several proposals for changing the Tomorrowland Speedway but none of them have been finalized.
- Overhaul and overlay the existing attraction
- Radically alter and overlay the concept but change it.
- Radically alter and overlay the concept but change it as part of a bigger project
- Fully remove the existing attraction for something new
October 21, 2016: @CarouselOf on Twitter is reporting that Tomorrowland will be renamed to Discoveryland.
October 9, 2016: @CarouselOf on Twitter is reporting that Tomorrowland may soon see a name change.
August 14, 2016: On Episode 108 of the Unofficial Guide’s Disney Dish podcast, Jim Hill explained that the Imagination! Pavilion could be rethemed to Inside Out. Additionally, he indicated that Disney is also considering putting the steam punk versions of Dreamfinder and Figment from the comic books into Tomorrowland. In a follow up message on Twitter, @JimHillMedia explained that Dreamfinder and Figment would likely appear as walk around characters instead of in their own attraction.
