LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Jul. 12, 2010 – It’s here! Ever since the east coast’s debut of Summer Nightastic! was announced during the “Celebrate Family Volunteers” press event, we have, like many Cast Members, eagerly awaited the arrival of the exciting new nighttime offerings across our parks. It was a thrill to hear that the summer season would include the return of Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade, a new Summer Nightastic! Fireworks Spectacular at the Magic Kingdom, a new drop sequence and special effects for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and special night entertainment at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot!
On opening night, June 6, we joined friends at the Magic Kingdom to view the beloved parade, not seen in Florida since 2001. We both have personal fond memories of this parade. Clay will never forget many childhood summer nights eagerly awaiting for the light parade on the Main Street curbs and getting special attention from Cinderella both before the parade and direct from her glowing pumpkin coach during. For Vanessa, the memory of seeing this enchanted parade brings back the exciting first Disney vacation with her family, and how she relived it by flipping through pictures her father took of each float.
Goosebumps were raised as we heard the familiar “Baroque Hoedown” introduction which was quickly followed by floats that brought back fantastic and vivid memories. Along friends, we cheered favorite characters and marveled at the new units to Florida, such as “Tinker Bell,” “Snow White,” and “Pinocchio.”
Following the parade, we watched the Magic Kingdom skies as Disney fairies and pirates created a firework show unlike any other above Cinderella Castle. We had to smile when Flora and Merryweather once again debated the colors to use for the occasion and shared concern when Captain Hook threatened to take over the kingdom. It truly is an amazing spectacular!
On June 12, we returned to Magic Kingdom by day to help communicate the great new offerings to media partners as part of a Summer Nightastic! press event. In the Rose Garden and at Tomorrowland Noodle Station, information was shared about the shows and how to enjoy them with radio listeners, blog readers, and television viewers (live and taped).
While talking about Summer Nightastic!, we also ran into some friends who enjoyed the offerings, and others who also celebrated the opening of “Toy Story 3″ along with the new games now available at Toy Story Midway Mania!
Thank you to our friends at Marketing for engaging us in the June 12 event. Come and enjoy the magic of our parks in the summer soon! The Summer Nightastic! program runs through August 14.
