New Plans for Downtown Disney

Rumors of change at Downtown Disney have been constant since the clubs started closing in 2008. A late 2010 announcement on the Disney Parks Blog attached a name to the project, Hyperion Wharf. Since that time, plans for Hyperion Wharf have seemingly been cancelled, and smaller scale changes have been made, like the addition of Splitsville.

On February 16, 2013, ParkRumors.com identified new plans for the project that they have dubbed, "The BVD Corridor Stormwater Project." The name actually refers to the necessary groundwater infrastructure changes, but the article also highlights the new name of the project: "Disney Springs".

The article explains that "Disney Springs" will be divided into 6 defined "neighborhoods" dubbed:

The Gateway
This will be the entry area that will include a 5 level parking structure and a larger bus drop off area. It will reside in the current A-H parking lots

The Town Center
This will be additional restaurants and merchandise locations. It will reside in the current E-G parking lots.

The Springs
A relaxing area along the waterfront

The Landing
Dining options along Village Lake, next to Paradiso 37.

The West Side
This will remain largely unchanged. Planet Hollywood is expected to change into a building called "The Observatory" and Wetzel's Pretzels will be replaced by a Starbucks location. An overhead railway will also be constructed for thematic purposes only and it will connect Disney Quest to the Starbucks location.

The Village Marketplace
This will remain largely unchanged. The former bus stop area will be replaced by two new retail locations and a bridge to Saratoga Springs will be constructed.
