ABOUT

EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays is a seasonal event that takes place between Thanksgiving and New Years in EPCOT’s World Showcase. Events vary from year to year, but they typically include the following:

  • Candlelight Processional: Performed multiple times per night, it is a retelling of the Christmas Story by a celebrity host and a choir. It is held in the American Gardens theater at the America Adventure Pavilion. The show moved to EPCOT in 1994. Previously it was performed at the Magic Kingdom.
  • Peace on Earth tag for IllumiNations: An additional “tag” for Illuminations: Reflections of Earth took place in 2018. A similar tag did not take place after Epcot Forever in 2019.
  • Joyful!: R&B Group D’Vine Voices play daily in Future World

Each country around World Showcase also highlights the traditions of that culture with storytellers, and other presenters.

Beginning in 2016, Disney added food and beverage options at select locations throughout World Showcase. In 2017, the “Holiday Kitchens” were expanded.

HISTORICAL NOTES

The event debuted in 1996 as Holidays Around the World. In 2017 the event was renamed to Epcot International Festival of the Holidays.

The 2019 Epcot International Festival of the Holidays took place between November 29th and December 30th, 2019 in Epcot’s World Showcase. The schedule of events for 2019 was as follows:

  • Canada: Canadian Holiday Voyageurs: Take a musical tour of the Great White North and explore Canada’s holiday traditions.
  • China: Chinese Lion Dancers: Catch a glimpse of this colorfull performance that brings good fortune and happined in the Lunar New Year
  • France: Pere Noel: Rediscover the magic of Christmas through the letter of a delightful child.
  • Germany: Durch & Durch: Enjoy a German Christmas as a live band fills the holiday marketplace with music and merriment.
  • Italy: La Befana: Come hear the tale of the kind-hearted witch who visits young sleeping children on the Eve of the Epiphany
  • Japan: Daruma Storyteller: Discover customs of the Japanese New Year and the fascinating story behind its good luck charm-the Daruma doll.
  • Mexico: Las Posadas Celebration: Join the fun and pageantry of Las Posadas with dancers, pinata and the music of Mariachi Cobre
  • Between Morocco and France: Hanukkah Storyteller: Storyteller Zachary shares legends, tells tales and sings songs highlighting Hanukkah celebrations.
  • Morocco Sahara Beat: Join in as the lively Moroccan band recreates the fun of street festivals across Morocco.
  • Norway: Sigrid Meets Julenissen the Christmas Gnome: Celebrate the season with laughter as the storyteller encounters a magical, mischievous Christmas gnome.
  • Norway: Norway Vikings: Keep a sharp eye out for wandering Vikings.
  • United Kingdom: Father Christmas: Ring in the holiday season and traditions of the United Kingdom with good cheer.

Candlelight Processional

The Candlelight Processional is a retelling of the Christmas story with an accompanying choir. Each night the show is performed three times (5 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m) and it is hosted by a celebrity guest narrator.
