The Wildlife Express Train continues the tradition of trains in Disney parks. Dubbed, “A Backstage Journey through Disney’s Animal Kingdom,” The Wildlife Express train is the sole mode of transportation between the main park and Rafiki’s Planet Watch.
The train features stations at the Harambe Railway Station in Africa and Rafiki’s Planet Watch.
The train ride from Rafiki’s Planet Watch to Harambe Station is primarily a means of transporting guests back to the Africa section of the park. The trains themselves are made to resemble trains that would be in operation in Africa or Asia and have been weathered to showcase their age. The equivalent trains in Africa and Asia would be used for travel and these trains have luggage above the guest seating area to reflect this use.
The trip runs adjacent to the Asia section of the park. Guests can hear the sounds of Kali River Rapids throughout the ride. Scenery along the tracks also includes three Indonesian style huts before passing by additional foliage and the backstage areas of the Asia section of the park before returning to the Harambe Railway Station in Africa.
The Harambe Railway Station is a rustic themed station.
Travel aboard a rustic, slow-moving train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch to observe the backstage operations of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and learn about animal conservation.

TIMES GUIDE - OPENING/CLOSING
This location typically opens 30-60 minutes after park opening and typically closes at 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM.
The animals may go into their night houses earlier than the closing time for the park when there is an early sunset. On these days, refer to the time guide or in park signage for the closing time. Signage exists near Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail and Maharajah Jungle Trek indicating the closing time for those attractions. Most other animal enclosures will close at around the same time with the exception of Kilimanjaro Safaris which remains open later.
The Wildlife Express Station at Conservation Station features bright colors (primarily Red, Blue and Yellow) as well as animal silhouettes along the railings.
The Wildlife Express Trains are rustic diesel-hydraulic steam trains manufactured by the Severn Lamb company of Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom. The three locomotives each have a different color, red, black and green. The locomotives hitch to one of two sets of five rail cars.
The seating on the rail cars faces to the left relative to the forward motion of the train. Each five car train can accommodate 250 guests at a time.
The train is a 3 ft narrow gauge rail.
