Na’vi River Journey takes guests into the bioluminescent forests at the edge of the valley of Mo’Ara where they encounter native flora, fauna, and a ceremony for the Na’vi “Shaman of Songs.”
A woven totem greets guests near the entrance of the attraction. The attraction is brought to you by the tour guides in the land, Alpha Centauri Expeditions (ACE). ACE was responsible for building the reed boats, the queue and nearly everything else to prepare guests for the journey. Inside, the attraction doesn’t have a linear story, but guests are invited to experience the nighttime bioluminescent rainforest inside the Valley of Mo’ara in search of the Shaman of Songs.
Per Imagineer Joe Rohde:
In Na’vi River Journey We are taking a journey into the grotto forests at the edge of the valley of Mo’ara to witness a forest ceremony conducted by a female shaman.
The forest and the life within it are drawn to this song, animals & people move towards it, kind of a symbol of unity & integration: grows in structure & clarity as we approach, like awareness, begins a bit spooky, but concludes with uplifting emotion, like adventure.
The attraction begins in a series of caves with the bioluminescent lighting surrounding the boat. Guests pass by a Na’vi set back in the foliage as the boat continues on the journey.
The environment opens up and the foliage glows around the river. In the distance, viperwolves watch the passing boats with curiosity.
The river continues with Na’vi passing by in the distance while animals and foliage surround the boat from all sides. Fan lizards fill the rainforest throughout the attraction. The journey culminates with the Na’vi Shaman of Songs. The Na’vi figure is singing to the boat as it approaches and passes by. The lifelike movements of the figure add to the mystery before the boat returns to the unload area.
Journey down a gentle river through the bioluminescent rainforest as you search for the Na’vi “Shaman of Songs.”
Guests of all ages. Guests seeking a peaceful, gentle attraction.
TIMES GUIDE - OPENING/CLOSING
This attraction opens with the park.
Na’vi River Journey is one of the high demand Fastpass+ reservations in the park. Same day availability will be limited and guests will typically save at least 60-90 minutes using Fastpass+ even on low crowd days.
The Animal Kingdom doesn’t utilize the same “Tier” system used at Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but guests can only choose one of Na’vi River Journey or Flight of Passage. If a guest does not choose a Fastpass+ for either of those two attractions, they are able to make 3 selections of all other Fastpass+ attractions.
Na’vi River Journey and Flight of Passage are the highest demand Fastpass+ attractions in the park.
The queue begins outside with a Na’vi totem near the attraction entrance.
Along the queue, exotic foliage lines the path. The plant life is an extension of that found elsewhere in the land and features a mixture from Earth and Pandora. Guests walk under the floating mountains into covered switchbacks. Above the queue, guests can see a woven map of the Valley of Mo’ara and Na’vi River Journey. This woven map comes to life at night with lighting effects.
Additional woven Pandoran artwork adorns the covered queue.
The queue continues into a small cave before approaching the loading area.
The vehicles are known as “reed boats” and appear to be woven out of reeds. Each boat has two rows and each row seats 3-4 guests.
The reed boats are smaller than any of the other boat rides on property. The peaceful journey through the rainforest is similar to the opening sequences of Living with the Land.
