The Norway Pavilion is the newest country added to World Showcase (1988). The design resembles a small Norwegian Village and the pavilion is highlighted by the attraction in the back. The Maelstrom attraction was the centerpiece of the pavilion from 1988 through 2014. The attraction had it’s last day of operation on October 5th, 2014 to make room for an attraction inspired by the movie Frozen called Frozen Ever After. Frozen Ever After debuted in June 2016 along with the Royal Sommerhus meet and greet (Anna and Elsa) and The Wandering Reindeer shop.
Additional activities include the Norsk Kultur exhibit inside the Stave Church, shopping at the Puffin’s Roost, snacks inside the Kringla Bakeri, and Princess dining at Akershus.
The Stave Church is styled after Gol Church of Hallingdal, which was built in approximately 1250 A.D. The Akershus restaurant is styled after the Norwegian castle of the same name. It was a 14th century castle standing in Oslo’s harbor
Previous activities included the Vikings Conquerors of the Seas Exhibit and a Viking ship playground.
A plaque at the Norway Pavilion reads:
The Norway Showcase was officially inaugurated on the third of June, 1988, at EPCOT Center, in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses, Crown Prince Harald and Crown Princess Sonja.
The Viking ship playground was removed in December 2008.
