2019 D23 Expo Day 3: Parks and Resorts Presentation – Everything Else


Day 3 of the 2019 D23 Expo was highlighted by the Parks and Resorts presentation at 10:30 AM PST (1:30 PM PST). The presentation was hosted by Bob Chapek, the head of Parks and Resorts and Consumer Products.

As expected, the Walt Disney World portion of the presentation focused primarily on the evolution of Epcot while other smaller announcements, names, concept art and opening dates/seasons were revealed.

In addition to Walt Disney World announcements, Disney California Adventure saw the announcement of a new Spider-Man web shooter attraction and a tease for a new Avengers E-ticket attraction as part of the Avengers Campus.

The Disney Wish was named as the 5th Cruise ship in Disney’s fleet and Imagineer Joe Rohde spoke on Disney’s plans for their second island in the Caribbean, known by locals as Lighthouse Point.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

A new trailer was played for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. In the trailer, previously unseen footage of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance can be seen.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway

During the presentation, Bob Chapek shared concept art of the facades for the Disneyland and Disney World versions of the attraction. Additionally, he also shared concept art for Disneyland’s queue as well as current construction photos inside the Walt Disney World attraction.

Cirque du Soleil – New Show at Disney Springs

Walt Disney Imagineering, Walt Disney Animation and Cirque du Soleil are working in collaboration on the new show. Legendary Disney animator, Eric Goldberg took the stage along with part of the Cirque du Soleil team to discuss the project. The new show will combine animation with live actors with the animation interacting with the human performers. Tickets are now on sale for the Spring 2020 opening. The show will open for previews March 20, 2020, and officially premiere April 17, 2020.

Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge

A new piece of concept art was revealed as well as confirmation of a new restaurant inspired by the Princess and the Frog.

50th Anniversary Updates

While details were minimal, Bob Chapek stated that every park will receive updates for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World.

Disney Genie

Disney Genie is a new interactive planning tool set to debut by the end of 2020. It promises to make planning “easier and more fun by providing guests customized itineraries.”
