A refurbishment took place in 2014 on The Little Mermaid - Ariel's Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure. This refurbishment included additional static props being added to the attraction as well as painting the majority of the props with black light paint.
Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid is expected to close for refurbishment from February 2nd - March 3rd, 2015. Several items have already been re-painted with black light paint, supporting the rumor that this will be extended to other areas of the attraction during the refurbishment.
March 4, 2015: The attraction re-opened with blacklight enhancements, additional static props, and real hair for Ariel in the Kiss the Girl scene.
February 13, 2015: WDWMagic.com user lnsemsf has reported that Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid will re-open a few days early, on March 4th.
January 17, 2015: WDWThemeParks posted to their Twitter account that several stationary fish on Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid have been painted with black light paint.
October 19, 2014: Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid is not listed on the calendar beginning on February 2, 2015. Other attractions have times through February 28th. WDWMagic.com user lnsemsf has reported that the attraction is expected to be closed from February 2nd - March 6th
April 14, 2014: WDWMagic.com user WDW1974 has reported that Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid is expected to receive a refurbishment during one of the slow seasons of 2015. This refurbishment is expected to be similar to the refurbishment planned for the Disney California Adventure version of the attraction.
March 18, 2014: WDWMagic.com user WDW1974 has reported that the changes being made to the Disney California Adventure version of the Little Mermaid attraction, "will be making their way east... at some point."
March 4, 2014: MiceChat.com detailed the much rumored enhancements for Disney California Adventure's version of the Little Mermaid attraction. These enhancements include a black light treatment to the Under the Sea scene, a larger death scene for Ursula and a reduced wedding scene.
February 25, 2014: The Disney Parks Blog confirms that The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure will close at the end of the operating day on March 19 for maintenance, and is scheduled to reopen in late spring.
November 12, 2013: MiceChat.com mentioned that show enhancements would be coming to Disney California Adventure's version of the Little Mermaid attraction.
