Pre-show Notes

The Pre-show rotunda continues the colonial theme present throughout Liberty Square. Inside the pre-show, exhibits highlight the history of the attraction and other similar attractions like Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln from Disneyland.

The exhibits showcase some of the sculptor models used to create the faces of the animatronic Presidents.

Story

The attraction is the evolution of the 1964-1965 World's Fair attraction, Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln. Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln is still running at Disneyland, and features Walt Disney's favorite President, Abraham Lincoln.

The Hall of Presidents celebrates the Office of the Presidency with an eye towards celebrating the achievements of the office and not the politics of the office. An opening day attraction, the show has changed over the years with the addition of each new President. From 1971-1993, the attraction changed slightly to add each new President during the first year of their term in office. Beginning with Bill Clinton in 1993, each new President recorded a speech to be used in the show.

The current show features a female narrator as well as speaking roles for the animatronic figures of Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and Donald Trump.

The Hall of Presidents 2017 Script

The show begins with the Presidential Seal projected behind the closed curtain and a dedication to the memory of Walt Disney.

A female narrator explains the origins of the Presidency coming out of the Revolutionary War. As she discusses the history of the office, the stage is filled with a video monitor that showcases illustrations and photos of the events described.

An emphasis is put on General George Washington's willingness to step down after two terms and a quick acknowledgement of the Presidents between Washington and the Lincoln discusses the bitter elections and burdens of the office.

Framed by a discussion of the Civil War, the narration leads into the curtain rising and an animatronic of Abraham Lincoln delivering his famed Gettysburg Address.

The curtain falls again as the narration continues with discussions on Teddy Roosevelt. Beginning with Roosevelt, archival footage is interspersed with the narration. This continues with discussion on Franklin D. Roosevelt where footage from his Fireside chats and other speeches further the history of the Presidency.

A series of additional speeches from Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama lead into the curtains rising once again to reveal all 44 Presidents.

The narrator introduces every President from George Washington through Barack Obama by name before President George Washington stands to explain the oath of office.

President Washington gives way to President Donald Trump who receipts the oath of office as well as a speech on what it means to be President.

The show closes with an emphasis on the uniqueness of the role of President of the United States.

Historical Notes

From 1971-1993 the show received updates when a new Presidential Administration began. Presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George Bush were added to the attraction without speaking roles.

In 2001, President George W. Bush was added to the attraction and he also recorded a speech for the attraction.

In 2009, President Barack Obama was added to the attraction and the narrator was changed to Morgan Freeman. In addition to Presidents Obama and Lincoln having speaking roles, President George Washington also spoke for the first time.

In 2017, President Donald Trump was added to the attraction. A new narrator was added and Presidents Washington, Lincoln and Trump all had speaking roles.
