Times Guide – Opening/Closing

This attraction opens with the park.

Fastpass+ Notes

Toy Story Midway Mania is one of the high demand Fastpass+ reservations in the park. Same day availability will be limited and guests will typically save at least 45-60 minutes using Fastpass+ even on low crowd days.

It is a "Tier 1" Fastpass+ attraction and is the highest demand Fastpass+ attraction in the park.

Queue Notes

As guests enter the queue they encounter a selection of oversized props indicating that they have been shrunk down to the size of a toy. This helps drive the story that the Toy Story characters have set up the midway playset and us as guests will be able to participate.

In the queue, the walls, floor and ceiling are decorated with board games and toys that can be found in and around Andy's room. The walls also include large illustrations that Andy has also drawn. Props include a large Etch A Sketch, Crayons and more.

At the far end of the queue a large interactive Mr. Potato Head animatronic talks with guests. Mr. Potato Head can identify colors, articles of clothing, remove his ear and will occasionally freeze when he thinks Andy is coming.

Guests pick up their 3-D glasses in a life size Lincoln Log house. From there, the queue leads to the merge point with Fastpass+ and standby. After the merge, the queue extends up and down a flight of stairs that is covered with a midway style covering. The loading area is designed by tinker toys and Christmas lights completing the theme of being in Andy's bedroom.

Vehicle Description

The vehicles have two sets of guests sitting back to back with two person benches. The vehicles are two per train allowing for 8 guests to sit in a single vehicle grouping. Each person has an individual lap bar and a spring-action shooter that lowers with the lap bar. The vehicles can rotate 360 degrees, and that rotation takes place between the interactive games.

According to Disney, each ride vehicle weighs as much as 8,580 Woody dolls.

Story

In the television special, Ultimate Walt Disney World, Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald explains the story as follows:

The story of Toy Story Mania is that Andy got a new midway carnival game play set. And while Andy is off with his parents, the toys have taken the play set and brought it to life and they've invited us to become a toy and play with them.

In Toy Story Mania you are shrunk down to the size of a toy. And so you aim your cannon at the different targets in the game and you pull the string. And you will see out of your cannon the ammunition that's linked to each game you're playing. So in one game you pull the string and darts come out. In the next game, ring[s] [tosses] come out. So every game you play has different ammunition, every time you pull the trigger you can see your ammunition so it helps you aim at the targets. So it's a real time interactive game unlike anything we've ever done before.

Andy recently received the "Toy Story Midway Games Play Set" and the toys have set this up in Andy's room. Guests have been shrunk down to the size of a toy to play along side the toys in this play set. The theming of Andy's room begins in the queue and continues to the load area. Guests are surrounded by toys, books and games as they first enter the vehicle. The in car monitor highlights the spring-action shooter advising guests to pull the string to shoot. The monitor also instructs the guests to put on their 3-D glasses. Additional tips display on the screen as the vehicle twists and turns towards the practice game. Each game has tips and tricks that allow guests to earn more points. Tips for each game can be found in our strategy guide:

Toy Story Midway Mania! Strategy Guide

The Practice Game

Guests move to one of two different setups for the practice game.

In one version, Woody welcomes the guests to the practice game and he and Rex hold targets for guests to shoot. Guests can pull their spring-action shooter to throw pies at the targets. Rex offers advice on how to aim. No points are earned during this round, but it allows guests to get oriented with the spring-action shooter.

In the other version, Buzz Lightyear welcomes the guests as he is joined by Jessie. They also hold targets as together they teach guests how to use their spring-action shooter. Once again, no points are earned during this round, but it allows guests to get oriented with the spring-action shooter.

Other Toy Story characters can be seen as photos in this game.

Hamm and Eggs

The vehicle spins past some props onto the first game where guests can score points.

The game is hosted by Hamm and Buttercup. It's a barn yard scene with a series of animals that pop up and slide across the screen. The spring-action shooters launch eggs in this game and when a target is hit it falls backwards.

Rex and Trixie's Dino Darts

The vehicle spins out of the Hamm and Eggs scene past some drawings and additional props.

The game is hosted by Rex and Trixie and features a volcano with a series of balloons. Dinosaurs walk across the screen with balloons attached to them as well. The spring-action shooters launch darts in this game and when a balloon is hit, it pops.

This game replaced Bo Peeps Baaa-a-lloon Pop in May of 2010.

Green Army Men Shoot Camp

The next game is around the corner and is hosted by the Green Army Men. There is a slight army theme to the game, and the targets a series of plates. The spring-action shooter launches baseballs and when a plate is hit, it shatters.

Buzz Lightyear's Flying Tossers

The vehicle rotates passed additional props into the next game.

Buzz Lightyear hosts the game, but the green aliens are really the stars. 8 green aliens sit in a rocket ship in the center of the screen while additional aliens are off to the side. The spring-action shooter launches rings and the objective is to ring the aliens and other objects like rockets and planets to earn points.

Woody's Rootin' Tootin' Shootin' Gallery

After passing a midway scene painted on the wall, the vehicle enters the next scene. The game is hosted by Woody and Jessie. It starts out stationary, but this is the first scene where the vehicle moves while guests are launching items from their spring-action shooter.

The western scene features bulls-eye targets that each spawn additional targets. The spring-action shooter shoots suction cups and when a target is hit, it collapses. Original targets spawn new targets, while the extended targets spin and disappear.

After a short period of time, the vehicles start moving through the scene as new targets as generated. Jessie tells the guests to head on up to the gold mine as the vehicles slowly pass by screens with targets.

Woody then calls for the prospector to send down the mine car as the vehicle comes to a stop once again. A series of four mine tracks appear, each with targets falling over the ledge. Guests can hit the targets before the fall of the ledge for additional points.

Finally, the last game is a giant circular target for guests to hit as many times as they can in a short period of time. The point values for each time hitting this final target increase quickly and can get as high as 2000 points.

The Prize Booth

After the final scene, the scores are tabulated in the on screen monitor and on a new screen called The Prize Booth. Guests are placed at a certain level depending on the amount of points scored. Finally, the last item guests see is a giant handheld video game monitor that shows the highest score in the vehicle, the highest score of the hour, the highest score of the day and the highest score of the month.

Historical Notes

In May of 2010, characters from Toy Story 3 were added to the attraction. The most notable change was "Rex and Trixie's Dino Darts" replacing "Bo Peeps Baa-a-alloon Pop".

This attraction was formerly referred to as Toy Story Midway Mania! in various places around the parks.
